A beanie is a simple item, but during a Fraserburg winter it can make a very practical difference.
In 2026, Be The Good ran the Winter Beanie Drive for the second year, inviting knitters, donors and supporters to help provide warm beanies to young learners in Fraserburg. By the end of the drive, 752 beanies had been collected and delivered.
That result belonged to everyone who donated wool, knitted, contributed financially, packed or helped get the beanies where they needed to go.
Why Beanies Matter
Winters in the Karoo are cold, with temperatures in Fraserburg often dropping below freezing overnight. For learners who do not always have adequate winter clothing, getting to school and sitting through a cold morning can be difficult.
A warm beanie does not solve every challenge a child may face, but it is useful, immediate support. It helps make the school day more comfortable and gives learners one less thing to contend with during the coldest months.
What We Achieved
The 2026 drive delivered 752 beanies to young learners in Fraserburg.
Some were knitted by volunteers. Others were made possible through donated wool and financial contributions. Behind every beanie was someone who chose to give their time, materials or support.
Thank you to every knitter, donor, supporter, packer and volunteer who helped turn a simple idea into 752 practical items of winter clothing for local children.
How the Drive Works
There are several ways to support the Winter Beanie Drive:
Donate wool. Spare or newly purchased wool can be donated for our volunteer knitters to use.
Volunteer to knit. If you can knit a basic beanie, you can contribute directly to the next drive. Every completed beanie becomes part of the final delivery to Fraserburg.
Donate online. Financial contributions help us purchase materials and cover the practical costs involved in getting donations to the Karoo.
